Beautiful morning sunrise

An exceptional morning routine is key to a successful day, week, month, year and life. Successful people know that having rituals in the morning help get the best out of themselves, balance their energy and set them up for the best day they can have by getting the most out of their brain and body. You can learn to do this too if you are not already and the benefits of each step.

1. Develop a sleep routine that works for you

Some people, known as 'larks', function better when they sleep early and wake early. For example, George Bush who was always in bed by 10pm. However for some, working late is much more productive and people like Barack Obama, who are known as 'night owls' prefer to sleep and wake late. Whatever works best for you, try and stick to a regular routine and don't fluctuate your hours too much.

2. Don't snooze your alarm

Make the decision to get out of bed straight away to avoid brain fog and to not give yourself fragmented sleep. Doing this occasionally won't hurt you of course, but you are more likely to feel refreshed and ready for the day if you get out of bed straight away.

3. Make your bed

This improves sleep quality, starts your day off right, leads to better productivity, lowers stress, improves your mood and also just looks and feels better. It is a good habit to get into and installs a sense of pride in you.

4. Start your morning routine the night before

Mel Robbins is known for believing a great morning routine starts the night before. Having lists so you are aware of what you need to do on that day and also pre-planning things such as outfits to eliminate decision making can save your brain energy throughout the day.

5. Exercise

Exercising in some form in the morning can help set you up for a better sleep. Exercise is a natural remedy for stress and creates more endorphins in your brain which make you feel good, make better decisions and make you better able to take on life's challenges.

6. Journalling

Journalling and gratitude can help you remove blocks, manifest how you want your day to pan out and refocus your mind. Many successful people make this part of their morning routine to relieve stress and encourage space from negative thoughts.

7. Breathing

Meditation and deep breathing such as EFT tapping can help refocus your mind, balance stress and calm your nervous system and allows you to make better decisions throughout the day.

8. Get the hardest parts done first

Successful people recognise it is important to get the hardest tasks done first when their cognition is highest. They remove distractions such as social media and listen to good, energetic music.

As always, sending you my absolute best
